The Working Process 2011

The concept of the ‘Gigacase 2011’ project was present- ed to a large number of galleries in early 2011: a space of about 300 to 600 square metres was to be organised into six smaller, open space areas. The booths are arranged so that each gallery can present two photographers, in a di- rect and individual way, never obliging the participating galleries to compromise in any way in terms of quality or the way that the works of art are exhibited.

Later in the year, in September, a coordination meet- ing was held in the S.M.A.K museum between the se- lected galleries, Prof. Johan Swinnen, Francis Feidler and Ward Caes, in order to make sure that everyone in- volved in the organisation of the Gigacase was mindful of the needs of each party.

At the new ‘Lineart Award Event’ on Saturday, 3 December 2011, the organisers present the new laureates and the awards of 2011 in the presence of the galleries and the artists.

After five events, this prize has grown into a coveted feature. The prize winners at the events in 2005, 2006 and 2007 were respectively Louis Decordier, Ellen De Meutter and Renato Nicolodi. The jury guarantees a strong choice. It chooses a limited number of galleries, which will be allocated a stand in a special section at ‘The border’. As before, the National Lottery is sponsoring part of the stand fee for these promotional galleries.

Winners announced!

The jury, composed of Flor Bex (honorary director of the Museum for Contemporary Art, in Antwerp), Francis Feidler (manager of IKOB) and Sara Alonso Gómez (curator and art historian, Fundacion Ludwig de Cuba), was able to select seven young galleries, each of which has been given a stand in The border, during Lineart 2011. With this initiative, The border 2011 motivates these seven young Belgian promotional galleries with a sponsored selection.
